What We Are

C.H.O.I.C.E. (Children Having Options in Christian Education) is a nonprofit organization set up to provide scholarship assistance to low-middle income families with children in grades K-12.  The purpose of C.H.O.I.C.E. is to give more parents the opportunity to send their children to a Christian School.

What We Do

Our program is simple.  We pay 2/3 of yearly tuition, up to an annual maximum of $3,000 for eligible children to attend one of many private Christian schools of their choice.  The criteria are simple.  Students must live within the Albuquerque area, entering grades K-12 in the current school year, and qualify for the reduced cost Federal Lunch Program (see Financial Eligibility).  All scholarships are awarded on a first-come first-served basis: the families come to us, and they select their own Christian School (providing the school’s Statement of Faith agrees with ours -- see Statement of Faith) in the Albuquerque area.  (See a list of approved schools.)  Families contribute the balance of the tuition and secure other financial aid, if necessary, so they are actively involved with the schools.  Apply for a C.H.O.I.C.E. scholarship.

Why We Do It

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to be provided with academic excellence according to God’s truth, and to be taught Biblical principles that will enable them to make wise choices in life.  Everyday, Albuquerque area school children face a tough urban environment that would daunt most adults.  Yet with C.H.O.I.C.E., many more Albuquerque school children will succeed in a big way, building a solid future for themselves and their families.  These children will succeed because they are in schools that have a firm educational mission, teach strong values, focus on results, and have family deeply involved with their schooling.  As a result, their lives and their prospects for the future are radically improved.

Did You Know That …

Christian schools in the Albuquerque area are looking forward to accepting students who are participating in the C.H.O.I.C.E. program.

Students in private schools are twice as likely to go on to college.

Early Money = Smart Money

Research and experience show that the most important education children receive isn’t in college but in elementary and secondary school, in that order.  Because we concentrate on the early years (grades K-12), families build a strong educational foundation for their children; they don’t have to struggle to catch up later on, or get so far behind that they never can.  (And they won’t need costly remedial programs to prepare for college or work.)  Tuition scholarships have traditionally been offered at the college level, but all the college scholarships in the world won’t help children who aren’t learning to read and write in 1st grade – children who won’t make it past their freshman year in high school, let alone apply for college.

How You Can Help

We are used to hearing a lot of bad news on the school front.  And you’ve probably heard your share of excuses and endless debate over what should be done.  Reform is important, but while adults tinker with large systems, kids keep growing up.  The C.H.O.I.C.E. Scholarship Fund is not an education reform program, but a way to help needy children immediately.

Private resources for education are limited.  We believe that by investing seriously in a single life, we can change it in a permanent way.  Even a dozen reform programs don’t guarantee a single real education.  But every one of our scholarships does.

If you are interested in becoming a “proud sponsor of the American Dream,” keep the following figure in mind: every $3,000 will send a child to school for a year; $30,000 sends ten children; $300,000 sends a hundred, etc.
